I'm not quite sure where to start..the day was nothing like I expected. The last time we moved it was not difficult at all, but then again Lilli was only a couple of weeks old so I really didn't do much...but all I know is that we really didn't ask for any help except a couple of the guys helped Eric take over some of the bigger furniture...and we seemed to be okay..
Here is the rundown of our crazy day (Saturday October 2, 2010):
6:30 am Carmen decides to get up, so I got up with her and started doing some last minute packing...turns out there was a lot of that...
7:00 am Eric left to go pick up our u-haul trailer.
8:30 am STILL doing last minute packing that should have been done the day before...meanwhile help Eric load some bigger furniture into the u-haul.
9:30 Luckily I had the sense to ask a few friends to come over and help load things up...thank heavens for Elijah, Vanessa and Allyssa...(Vanessa and her fabulous daughter Sierra are actually moving into our house...YAY!! They are going to rent it until they are able to buy it) I love these people so much!
10 am I finished packing as everyone else loaded up the u-haul...then we realized we were not going to fit everything into our u haul AHHHHHHHHH (and this is without even taking our giant worn out couch, one of the book shelves, computer desk and another shelf...those were intentional though, we never intended to take them and then unfortunately our awesome orange Deseret Industries chair that we could not get down the stairs :( I was SO sad)
So a quick decision was made that Eric and I would take the load over and drop it off and then come back for the rest.
1:00 PM We finally arrived at our apartment...
1:40 After filling out the remaining paperwork to get our apartment key we realized we didn't have a lot of time for Eric to stay and help with everything so we hauled most of the big stuff up and then piled everything else outside.
So for the next few hours I hauled stuff up to the third floor..yep..around 3:30 I had just about ran out of my mental brain power that was getting those boxes up the stairs, I sat down to try to find some more when this lady walked over and said "are you Eric's wife?" It turns out it was a physicians assistant Eric met while doing his ER rotation, she lives right across the street from us! She helped me haul up the rest of the stuff. It was seriously a miracle! About 5:30 Eric got back with more stuff and the girls, unfortunately he had to drop it off again outside to go back to Philly and return the u-haul before the store closed. We saved over $100 to not leave it in Reading.
So he took Lilli with him and with Carmen crying from the pack n play I started hauling stuff up again. And Cara came back! She had a friend, Tracey, with her this time and they hauled up most of the stuff while I got Carmen cheered up.
Eric and Lilli finally got back after midnight and we crashed. The next morning we went back to Philly where Eric had left the computer all hooked up so we could listen to the morning session of conference while we pulled together the remaining stuff to move.
So after 1 1/2 u-hauls, and two car loads we finally moved!
What I learned:
I will NEVER try to move by myself again, we will definitely enlist the Elder's Quorum!
Eric commented afterwards that it would have been much easier to just go to Spokane, because we could have stayed in the same place until we felt like moving again! But we really feel like this is where we need to be, so I won't think about the fact that next September we will be doing this again!!

Moving is so hard. I'm sorry it was so rough on you. I was so lucky the last time I moved the company I work for move our stuff for us! But I've move a lot using a U haul the same way you did, but I didn't have two little kids to move too. I'm glad some people were able to pitch in and help.
