Since Lilli has been asking for a pet turtle for most of the year Eric and I decided to get a fish tank for Christmas, and let each of the kids pick out a fish. The idea is that if the kids can take care of fish then we will consider a turtle for Lilli, maybe on her next birthday.
The fish have been a hit, they are really active and fun to watch. Unfortunately we had a fatality the second day when Jared decided the fish were hungry and stuck a piece of saltine cracker in the tank. Lilli's fish was the most aggressive eater of all of them and he quickly gobbled it up. Only to die during the night. Lilli spent the entire morning crying, sitting at the keyboard writing songs for her dear departed fish. It was sad and amusing at the same time.
Jared and Carmi's fish seem to have taken quite an interest in each other. The kids have been saying that they got married!
We gutted our old box tv and used it as a table for the tank.
Carmi's fish
Jared's fish. He has a black tail, that's how we tell him apart from Carmi's.
Eric picked out a tank cleaner, he's pretty blurry. It's always interesting to see where he's at. He especially liked the black lava rock.
The two fishy lovers...
The pet store recommended we wait a few weeks to replace Lilli's fish, in order for all the proper bacteria to build up and the water to stabilize.

I guess fish aren't suppose to eat crackers then. ;)
