Butter...and Other Stuff

I've heard it said many times that a girl will end up just like her Mother sooner or later. I guess it makes sense, since we all learn our habits and to some degree our personalities from our parents. Luckily I have wonderful parents and am proud to say that in many ways I am just like them!

I always hope that my children will pick up my enjoyment of cooking and baking. This was really cute the other day...

Lilli was in the kitchen and I asked her what she was doing, she said she was making dinner. I asked her what she was making for dinner and she said "cow..and chicken!"

This is what I found:

Cute!! I just love her!

But if you have bad habits, look out! I have always had a love for dairy products (you know, sneaking a spoonful of sour cream out of the container, drinking milk straight from the carton, bites of cream cheese, pretty much any sort of cheese eaten by the handfuls..ya, I think that paints an accurate picture!) Note: I DID NOT pick this habit up from my Mom. I know she likes these things, but she is way to polite to eat it in this fashion!

So really all I can do is blame myself (maybe) when my girls show their love of dairy...
Lilli eats sour cream out of the container and drinks close to a gallon of milk a week (all by herself!) She's the family calf apparently. I guess the positive side of that is she is going to have very strong bones, which will be good for all the sports I'm sure she's going to love! Her energy has not diminished at all!

Carmen gets sticks of butter out of the fridge (real butter, yeah the $2 a lb stuff) and eats them, well she tries anyway, usually we catch her after just a tablespoon... now I have NEVER had the desire to eat butter all by itself, but if you whip it together with sugar I will probably have a nibble... hehe
So anyway I tried to trick Carmen in a couple of ways and they all pretty much backfired. #1 I decided to buy some margarine, and have just a little butter on hand for bread making. Maybe she would go for something newer (hence, more exciting!!) Besides margarine has fewer calories, costs ALOT less, and it's better to use it when I make no bake cookies (because I eat to many!).
It didn't work.
Carmen still went straight for the butter and ignored the margarine...what can I say...it is superior on so many levels!
#2, I hid the butter in the back of the fridge behind all the tall stuff. So Carmen went for the eggs instead. Yeah. I would much rather clean off greasy hands and face and lose a couple dollars then clean eggs off the floor! I think my next step is to use my trusty young women's camp knots and tie the fridge door shut!!

Where or where did the butter go?

Now this last little episode did NOT come from me...

Before...

and after.

This is how the story goes...
We had been talking about getting Lilli a hair cut for quite awhile, had even talked to a friend in the ward who cuts hair. We had my Mom give her a trim back in May, but Lilli was still putting up a pretty big fight every time her hair needed combed. So we thought, hey, lets get it cut short, then by the time it grows back she will be better at taking care of it herself.
It happened a little sooner then we planned though..and she didn't get a cut from our beautician friend, she got to be practice for Mom!

Last Monday I was doing some things and I heard the girls in the kitchen, I asked them what they were doing and they replied "we're cutting our hair" lol, at least they were honest! Lilli had cut a very noticeable chunk off the side, and had cut a handful of curls off the top of Carmi's head. Of course in the craziness of the moment I didn't get pictures. (Carmen's wasn't very noticeable at all, I didn't notice it for several days in fact) When I saw Lilli's hair I asked her if she wanted me to cut it, she said yes. She sat down in front of me and about twenty minutes later she had a hair cut. It turned out not to bad for my first time! I remembered most of what my Mom had told me, and also looked at a couple of tutorials on http://www.instructables.com/. It's a little uneven, but that's something my Mom can fix when we see her in 2 Weeks and 5 Days!!!

A little flatter on top...

If you look closely you can see where it was chopped off!

As for Jared...

He's gotten to quite the talkative little guy. He seems to know the difference between girls and boys, which is fascinating. He definitely enjoys his sisters, but there is something about boys for him. The other night I was visiting teaching and my friend has a son who is Carmi's age. Jared sat there watching him, then he started "talking" like crazy! Much more noise then he's ever made at home!
He's still huge, I think about 18 lbs, but he's finally started eating every 3 hours instead of 2 1/2 so I think he'll trim down some. It's amazing how quick four months has gone. We sure love him!
